Here are some common problems with water heaters when there is no hot water.

Is Pilot light on?

For gas hot water heaters check the pilot light is on. Open the front panel of your water heater and ensure the pilot flame is lit. If not, check the gas supply - in cases where LPG is used, check the bottle isn't empty. If you are on regular mains gas, ensure other gas appliances are working.

Relight the pilot light. Instructions are generally on the front cover of the water heater.

Is the electricity switched on?

Check the isolating switch (typically located at the switchboard) and next to the water heater (if installed) are both turned on.

Check your fuse box and ensure that any fuse labelled "hot water" or "water heater" is set to the ON position.

Check the power cord from the water heater is plugged in (if applicable) and is turned on.

Is the Temperature Pressure Relief Valve running?

Hot water heaters will generally discharge a small amount of water during the heat cycle from the relief valve.

If there is excessive water running from the relief valve, there may be problems and we recommend you call us on 1300 88 13 43.

Check the Thermostat setting

Ensure the thermostat is set correctly, if its set too low, you may not be heating the water sufficiently. Do not adjust the setting too high to avoid scalding. Set to 49 degrees Celcius.

For electric this will need to be checked by a electrician. Call us for assistance or use the form below.

If a tempering valve is fitted check the setting is adjusted to the desired temperature

Have you used too much hot water?

Is it possible that the hot water has depleated due to over use? Wait 30 minutes then try your hot water again.
